Norfolk, NE : Three drivers injured in Dixon County accident on Thursday afternoon, December 29, 2016

A two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in Dixon County sent three area residents to the hospital and temporarily closed part of U.S. Highway 20.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Elijah Becker, 40, of Jackson was traveling east on Highway 20 when it crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a semi-trailer truck driven by Jamon Guttau, 39, of Randolph, causing the truck to overturn.

Mandy Guttau, 37, also of Randolph, was a passenger in the truck.

The semi was hauling a load of modified distilled grain that was released onto Highway 20 when it overturned, closing the highway for approximately two hours until the Dixon County Department of Roads cleared the highway.

Allen Fire and Rescue and Ponca Fire and Rescue both responded to the accident.

Becker and the Guttaus were transported to Mercy Medical in Sioux City.

What caused Becker’s vehicle to cross into the westbound lane remains under investigation.
