TORRINGTON, CT : LifeStar picks up crash victim in Torrington on Friday, 5th February 2021

A person was flown by LifeStar helicopter after a head-on crash Thursday at 899 New Litchfield St. (Route 202).

The crash occurred at 1:47 p.m. near a bend in the road. One of the vehicles rolled over on its side against a utility pole. The driver in that vehicle, the only occupant, was trapped inside and had to be freed by firefighters using extraction tools.

Torrington Fire Lt. Mark Hilpert, who was the acting battalion chief, said the crew from Engine 4 cut the roof off the vehicle to free the driver, who was taken by Trinity Ambulance to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Life Star landed at the hospital.

Life Star was called due to the mechanism and extent of injuries. Litchfield Ambulance provided EMS mutual aid and patient care for the second vehicle’s driver.

Torrington Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
