Apache Junction, AZ : Hutchinson teen critically injured in crash in the 400 block of West 23rd Avenue on Sunday, 1st December, 2019

A 14-year-old Hutchinson teen was seriously injured Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in a Hutchinson neighborhood.

The teen, identified as Aiden Douglas, was eastbound in the 400 block of West 23rd Avenue about 11:40 a.m. when he lost control of his silver passenger car and struck a tree, ejecting him from the vehicle into the road, said Hutchinson Police Traffic Sgt. Brian Hirt.

After the impact the vehicle caught fire. Neighbors who heard the crash came to the assistance of the teen and doused the fire with a garden hose.

Douglas, who lives about a half mile from the crash site, was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was conscious and alert at the hospital, Hirt said.

Speed was believed to be a factor in the crash. The teen was not licensed to drive, Hirt said.
