VANCLEAVE, MS : A Vancleave man died on Tuesday, July 4, 2017

A Vancleave man died Tuesday night after he was hit by a car on Jim Ramsey Road, just west of Old Fort Bayou Road.

According to Sheriff Mike Ezell, John Bennett Ledbetter, 47, was wearing dark clothing and walking in the middle of the road in a dark area. He was hit by a driver headed east down Jim Ramsey.

Ledbetter was found dead on the scene, and investigators say alcohol was not involved.

No charges were filed against the driver, but the investigation into the accident continues.
