Portland, OR : Pedestrian struck, killed on SE Portland sidewalk Monday afternoon on August 18, 2014
A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car Monday afternoon on Southeast Division and 66th Avenue while he was walking on a sidewalk, Portland police say.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene just after 3 p.m. They found a man on the ground suffering from traumatic injuries. They treated the man at the scene but could not save him.
Police say an 84-year-old woman was driving westbound on Southeast Division Street when she crossed the eastbound lanes and hit the man, who was on the south sidewalk. She then crashed into a telephone poll.
Police say the female driver was traumatically injured and was taken to the hospital. She is expected to survive.
Police have closed Southeast Division Street between 64th and 69th avenues while they investigate the crash.
