Conway, SC : Passenger killed in Conway crash on Tuesday, November 8, 2016

The passenger, who died as a result of the crash, has been identified as a 51-year-old Conway man.

Benjamin Julian Creel died about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from multiple trauma, according to Tamara Willard, chief deputy coroner with Horry County Coroner’s Office.

A Conway woman was charged with felony driving under the influence after troopers say the front seat passenger of the vehicle she was driving died of his injuries sustained in an early morning wreck on Cultra Road.

Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety said that 49-year-old Jacqueline Medlin was driving a 2015 Chevrolet sedan southbound on Cultra Road at 1:48 a.m. Tuesday when she lost control of the vehicle.

Southern said Medlin’s car crossed the center line and she over-corrected, causing the vehicle to run off the right side of the roadway, hit a ditch and overturn.

Medlin was wearing her seat belt, but was transported by EMS to an area hospital where she was later released, Southern said.

Medlin remains at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Southern says Medlin’s passenger was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center where he died of injuries sustained in the collision. The passenger’s name has not yet been released.
