Sherman, TX : Three people injured in 3-car crash on Highway 69 at Highway 11 outside of Whitewright on Tuesday afternoon, August 2, 2016
A three-vehicle crash in Whitewright injured three people with one transported to the hospital by helicopter Tuesday afternoon.
A white van was traveling southbound on Highway 69 and stopped to turn left onto eastbound Highway 11. At about 4:30 p.m., a black SUV rear-ended the van causing it to hit a northbound car head on, Police Chief Beau Heistand said. The van flipped to its side on the middle of the roadway as the black car stopped several yards away on the northbound shoulder. The SUV came to a stop near the van on the roadway.
One person was in each vehicle, and all three suffered injuries, Heistand said. The female driver in the car was airlifted to a hospital in the Dallas Metroplex. Heistand said her injuries were serious but she was stable. One of the drivers was transported by ambulance, and the other was taken by a private vehicle to a local hospital.
“At this point it’s still under investigation to find out exactly whose fault it’s going to be,” Heistand said.
Highway 69 outside of Whitewright was closed for over an hour as crews cleared the scene.
“Unfortunately we have a lot of crashes that occur at this intersection,” Heistand said. “Most of them turnout to be a condition where speed was a factor.”
