Lee County, FL : Fort Myers woman seriously injured in a crash on Palm Beach Boulevard on Sunday night, December 20, 2015

A Fort Myers woman was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition Sunday night after the car she was driving struck a crosswalk signal and traffic sign in rural eastern Lee County.

Antonia Sanchez Vergara, 37, was westbound on Palm Beach Boulevard about 5:15 p.m. when her Mercury Montego veered into the right turn lane and collided with the electronic crosswalk signal and traffic sign in the raised crosswalk island at the Buckingham Road intersection. The vehicle continued to travel west before its right corner collided with a traffic signal support pole in the northwest corner of the intersection, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
