Pinconning Twp, MI : Husband, wife dead after violent crash in northern Bay County on Sunday, June 26, 2016
A husband and wife are dead following a violent traffic crash in Bay County's Pinconning Township over the weekend.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Tri-City Post responded at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, June 26, to a fatal crash at the intersection of Cody Estey and Mackinaw roads.
A pickup truck, driven by a 39-year-old woman, was heading north on Mackinaw Road when the driver ran a stop sign and collided with a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette. Officials with the Michigan State Police said the truck hit the Corvette's passenger side at a 90-degree angle, causing the sports car to hit a utility pole and roll over.
Police identified the driver of the Corvette as 50-year-old Donald Raber. His wife, 65-year-old Denise Raber, was in the passenger seat. They lived in Pinconning Township. Both were pronounced dead at the scene at 1:41 p.m., said Sgt. Duane Zook.
"It was a violent impact," Zook said.
The driver of the pickup truck and a 33-year-old male passenger in truck were taken to McLaren Bay Region hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Alcohol isn't believed to be a factor in the crash, Zook said.
An investigation into the crash continued Monday, June 27, Zook said. Once completed, the investigation will be submitted to the Bay County Prosecutor's Office for review.
