PETERSBURG, ND : One man was injured near Petersburg on Friday, August 11, 2017

One man was injured Friday evening when his vehicle rear-ended an RV camper being pulled by a pickup about 3 miles east of Petersburg.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported Garriet Gestson, 28, Lakota, N.D., was eastbound on U.S. Highway 2 in a 2005 Chevy Silverado shortly before 7 p.m. when he attempted to turn right onto the gravel road 124th Ave. N.E. with the camper in tow.

Ian Stewart, 23, Little Falls, Minn., was traveling east behind Gestson in a 2009 Chevy Silverado when he rear-ended the camper at highway speed.

Stewart was pinned in his vehicle for about an hour while rescue crews worked to extricate him. He was transported by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. The Highway Patrol said his airbag deployed and he was wearing his seat belt. Gestson was not injured.

Eastbound traffic was affected in the area for about four hours. The Highway Patrol said the crash is under investigation. Also responding to the scene were the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Niagara Fire and Rescue and Michigan Ambulance Service.
