Ann Arbor ,MI : 83-year-old woman killed in U.S. 23 crash involving 2 semis and 2 cars on Wednesday night,July 8th 2015

State police released more information Wednesday night about the crash on U.S. 23 that killed one and injured three others earlier that day.

An 83-year-old Novi woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.

A 63-year-old Novi woman was taken to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A 70-year-old Ypsilanti woman and a 72-year-old Ypsilanti man also were injured.

The four people were in vehicles that were involved in a crash with two semis about 12:22 p.m. on southbound U.S. 23 near Wills Road in York Township.

A semi truck driven by a 39-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio was traveling south on U.S. 23 when it struck a black Chevrolet Impala, sending it off the roadway.

The semi truck then struck a white Toyota Corolla from behind, pushing it into a second semi truck that was being driven by a 56-year-old man from Titusville, Pennsylvania.

The Impala, Corolla and the second semi truck all were stopped in the roadway due to a construction back-up, according to the release.

The 83-year-old woman driving the Corolla was killed.

The Impala was being driven by the 70-year-old Ypsilanti woman, who had non-life threatening injuries. The 72-year-old Ypsilanti man who was the passenger was in critical condition. They were taken to the University of Michigan Hospital.

The drivers of both semi trucks were uninjured in the crash.

The freeway was closed for several hours but re-opened about 5:30 p.m.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the release.
