COLONIE, NY : Colonie police officer injured in night crash on Saturday, 24th November 2018

A longtime Colonie police officer responding to a call night was injured in a crash with another car, police said.

The officer, a 20-year veteran, was taken to Albany Medical Center with possible head and neck injuries. The injuries were considered non-life-threatening and the officer was listed in stable condition Friday night, police said. An update on his condition was unavailable Sunday evening.

The driver of the other car, a 58-year-old man from Latham, was taken to Albany Memorial Hospital for chest pain, police said. He was released later Friday evening.

The incident happened about 7:15 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Watervliet-Shaker and Old Loudon roads in Latham.

The patrol car was headed west on Watervliet-Shaker with emergency lights and sirens activated while responding to a call for assistance from another police agency on the Northway, near Exit 5, when it entered the intersection at Old Loudon Road and collided with the other vehicle, which was headed north, police said.

Police did not name either driver in a release issued after the crash.
