Piru ,CA : Male driver of vehicle killed after crash on Highway 126 at Hopper Canyon Road on Tuesday ,August 4th 2015
The male driver of a vehicle was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Highway 126 at Hopper Canyon Road near Piru, the California Highway Patrol said.
The victim’s vehicle was traveling west on Highway 126 about 1:10 p.m. when for unknown reasons it crossed the roadway into opposite lanes of traffic and collided head-on with a water truck traveling 60 mph on the eastbound side of Highway 126, the patrol reported.
The driver of the vehicle was rescued from the wreck by the Ventura County Fire Department, authorities said.
A helicopter landed to take the victim to a hospital but was not needed because the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
It was reported that the vehicles got stuck on railroad tracks after impact and officials shut down train traffic as well as Highway 126 to make way for personnel.
A 60-year-old Fresno man and driver of the water truck suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
CHP was investigating why the male drove the vehicle into oncoming traffic, officials said.
