Richmond, VA : Driver killed in tractor-trailer crash on I-64 in New Kent on Monday, August 1, 2016

A tractor-trailer driver was killed and a passenger seriously injured Monday when their vehicle went off eastbound Interstate 64 and slammed into several trees, Virginia State Police said.

The crash happened about 6:15 p.m. at mile marker 216, about two miles east of the Providence Forge exit.
Police said the 2008 Sterling tractor-trailer ran off the left side of the highway, hit several trees and then overturned down an embankment.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, who was ejected from the vehicle, was taken by med-flight to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
