Covina, CA : Los Angeles-area motorcycle officer dies in crash Tuesday afternoon on September 30, 2014
A police officer has died after a collision with an SUV while on patrol on a motorcycle in a Los Angeles County suburb.
Covina police spokesman Sgt. Gregg Peterson says the75-year-old woman driving the SUV made a left turn in front of Officer Jordan Corder at a city intersection Tuesday afternoon.
Corder ran into the SUV and was thrown from his motorcycle onto the road and was declared dead at a hospital soon after.
Covina police say Corder was 28 years old and has been an officer for seven years.
Gov. Jerry Brown issued a statement mourning Corder and saying Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff in his honor.
The woman was also hospitalized. Police would not release her name or condition.
Covina is a suburb some 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
