Lebanon, OR : Janice Lee Dye, 38, of Albany, killed in a three-car crash on Highway 34 and Goltra Road on Thursday afternoon, December 3, 2015
Oregon State Police on Saturday confirmed Janice Lee Dye, 38, of Albany, was killed in a three-car crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 34 and Goltra Road west of Lebanon.
The initial investigation reveals Dye was traveling south on Goltra Road in a 1995 Honda Civic when she failed to stop at the intersection with Highway 34. The Honda was struck by 1994 GMC van, which had been traveling westbound on Highway 34. Another vehicle, a 2005 Subaru wagon, also struck the Honda. The collision caused the Honda to separate into two pieces.
When the van rolled over as a result of the collision, its seven occupants were injured and in need of help. None spoke English, but a Spanish-speaking passerby, Rebecca Ryan, 35, of Lebanon, stopped to assist. Ryan works as a Clinical Health Navigator for Benton County, where she serves as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking families.
Ryan gave a statement through the Lebanon Fire District that, “Although there were seven victims of the crash that could not speak English, they are people just the same as you and I. They have the right to the best care that any emergency or other health care provider can give them.” She also added that her own prayers are with all of the families affected by the tragedy.
The seven occupants were transported to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
