SARASOTA COUNTY, FL : A single-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 on Sunday, July 2, 2017
Seven people were injured early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 75, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
According to reports, Jose Gonzalez, 39, of Wimauma, Fla., was traveling north on I-75 near mile marker 188 around 12:49 a.m. in his Ford Expedition when his right rear tire suffered a blow out, causing him to lose control. His vehicle traveled off the roadway onto the grass shoulder, down an embankment into a ditch and rolled two times.
Gonzalez suffered serious injuries and was flown by Bay Flight to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
A passenger, Jasmin Gonzalez, 10, of Wimauma, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to All Children’s Hospital.
Five other passengers, all of Wimauma, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Venice Regional Hospital. They were Eduardo Gonzalez, 17; Maria Cruz, 36; Jenny Gonzalez, 18; Jayden Gonzalez, 1; and Jacqueline Gonzalez, 4.
Jose Gonzalez was charged with having an expired driver license and seat belt violations.
