Stamford, CT : 18-year-old Stamford High School student hit, killed by van on Saturday morning, November 5, 2016

Police have identified an 18-year-old Stamford High School student killed over the weekend after being struck by van while crossing a street outside the school.

Police say Karina Tinajero-Arreguin was not in a crosswalk when she was hit on Saturday morning. She later died at a hospital.

The Advocate reports police say Tinajero-Arreguin had been on her way to take the SAT exam when she was hit.

Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher tells the newspaper the woman’s family immigrated to the country from Mexico. He says they’re making funeral arrangements in their home country.

Police say the van driver is a 37-year-old Stamford man. He is cooperating with investigators.

Officials say drugs, alcohol, and distracted driving don’t appear to have contributed to the crash.

No charges have been filed.
