Monroe, LA : Five people injured in inmate van, semi wreck on I-20 Wednesday, September 28, 2016

A crash involving a Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office inmate transport van and an 18-wheeler backed up traffic on Interstate 20 Eastbound for approximately two hours Wednesday.

Louisiana State Police troopers and Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies worked the crash, which happened near the Millhaven Road exit around 4 p.m. A 2015 Freightliner 18-wheeler rear-ended the transport van, a 2013 Ford, pulling a trailer.

The wreck occurred as the van slowed while approaching traffic also moving at a slower rate of speed.

Four inmates and one deputy were in the van and all were transported to an area hospital for injuries.

Michael Reichardt, Troop F public information officer, said the semi driver was ticketed for careless operation.

Traffic was flowing an all four interstate lanes by 5:45 p.m.
