Oklahoma City ,OK : Police arrest man in crash that killed prominent sportscaster Bob Barry Jr on Saturday afternoon ,June 20th 2015

Oklahoma sports figures joined with people across the state Sunday in mourning the death of longtime sportscaster Bob Barry Jr., who was killed in an automobile accident.

Barry's death united officials from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, who offered condolences and shared stories about the veteran broadcaster.

"Bob was an energetic, dedicated and respected sportscaster, but he will probably be remembered by most for his great personality, strong love of people and the fact he was an Oklahoman," OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione told local media. "The Barrys are one of the all-time great family stories when it comes to sports in our state, and OU has enjoyed a close connection with them for more than half a century."

Oklahoma City Police have arrested 26-year-old Gustavo Castillo Gutierrez, who was being held at the Oklahoma County Jail on Sunday morning. He faces charges including manslaughter, driving without a valid license and drug possession. Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney for Gutierrez.

Barry, 58, died Saturday afternoon after police say Gutierrez made an illegal U-turn and collided with Barry's motor scooter. He is survived by his wife, Gina, and four children.

Barry is the son of prominent Oklahoma sportscaster Bob Barry Sr. and replaced his father as KFOR-TV's sports director in 1997. He also hosted a talk radio show weekday mornings on The Sports Animal radio network.
