Millsboro, DE : Man charged following crash on Millsboro Highway, south of Collins Road on Thursday, 23rd January, 2020

A Bridgeville man faces charges Jan. 23 after police say he crashed into another car while driving intoxicated near Millsboro.

Isaias Chavez-Chilel, 20, was driving at 11:17 p.m. on Millsboro Highway, south of Collins Road, west of Millsboro when he failed to maintain his lane and struck a car head-on driving northbound on Millsboro Highway, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

Upon contact with Chavez-Chilel, Jaffe said, troopers detected an odor of alcohol, and a computer inquiry revealed that Chavez-Chilel did not have a valid driver’s license. He was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where a driving under the influence investigation ensured. Chavez-Chilel sustained minor injuries and was charged with felony first-degree vehicular assault, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and other driving violations. He was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $8,202 cash only bond.

The operator of the Santa Fe, a woman, 24, was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center with serious, nonlife-threatening injuries.
