A Moreno Valley man who died early Sunday, May 7, made an “unsafe turning movement” while driving along San Timoteo Canyon Road that caused him to crash, the California Highway Patrol said.
Larry Splawn Jr., 34, was driving a blue 2003 Acura 2 TLX sedan west on San Timoteo Canyon Road on the border of Calimesa, just north of Beaumont, according to a CHP news release. About 1 a.m., three-quarters of a mile east of Entranz Boulevard, he turned to the right, causing the car to enter the dirt shoulder.
The car crashed into a dirt embankment and became airborne, the release said. It crashed into a power pole before landing on its wheels.
Firefighters found Splawn dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the car and no other vehicles were involved, the release said.
Investigators have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, the release said.
