Sacramento, CA : Motorcyclist dies in head-on collision on rural SR-94 on Friday, November, 17th 2017
A 51-year-old man died early Friday morning after colliding with a vehicle and being run over by a driver on state Route 94 near Barrett Junction.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the man was traveling west on a 1988 Suzuki motorcycle at about 5:15 a.m. Friday when he crossed the double-yellow line on the highway east of Barrett Smith Road.The motorcyclist struck the front of a Jeep Wrangler traveling east on state Route 94 and was thrown from the Suzuki and onto the westbound lanes of the highway.
The Jeep spun out onto the shoulder of the roadway and caught fire moments later, according to the CHP.
The driver of the Jeep, a 31-year-old man, told authorities that another vehicle then ran over the legs of the motorcyclist as he was on the roadway, then continued driving without stopping.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene, and the injured rider was flown by helicopter to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, where he died.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the initial collision with the Jeep was the cause of the motorcyclist’s fatal injuries. The Medical Examiner is expected to confirm the cause of death when an investigation is concluded.
There is no description of the vehicle that ran over the rider’s legs , and anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol at 619-401-2000.
No other vehicles were involved, and it is unclear if alcohol and or drugs were a factor in the crash, the CHP reported.
