Allentown, PA : One man injured An out-of-control car crash at South Jefferson Street on Friday, April 15th, 2016
n out-of-control car on Friday morning sheared off a fire hydrant, tore up a small tree and then flipped over after crashing into a car parked in a driveway, Allentown police and witnesses said.
Assistant Chief Gail Struss said she believed the driver, who is in his 70s, may have suffered from a medical issue just before the crash.
The man's car was southbound when he hit a fire hydrant, went over a sidewalk and through a yard, hit a tree trunk and crashed into the car, Struss said. She said the man did not suffer serious injuries.
The accident happened at 10:47 a.m. Friday in the 1400 block of South Jefferson Street. The driver was talking and moving his extremities after he was freed from the silver sedan, according to witness Pat Hodge.
"The momentum was unbelievable," said Hodge, who lives a few doors from the crash scene and saw the southbound sedan leave the road and cross three lawns before hitting the parked car in the driveway at 1468 S. Jefferson St.
The owner of that car, Dorothy Berosh, said seven or eight of her cars have been hit in the 42 years she has lived on the road.
"We had seven out in the street so we started parking only in the driveway, and I back in because I don't want to back out," she said. "And that's what I get."
Hodge said his own pickup truck had been clipped while parked in front of his house.
According to police, the driver of the car suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. His car was towed from the scene.
