Helena,MT : One killed in crash near East Helena on December, Wednesday 13th 2017
One man was killed in a head-on crash near East Helena Wednesday.
Shortly before 1 p.m., emergency crews responded to the crash just west of the East Helena viaduct on U.S. Highway 12.
A Chevy Trailblazer traveling east lost control on icy roads and went into the westbound lane of traffic, Montana Highway Patrol Trooper David Gleich said. The SUV struck a westbound Suburban on its front and passenger side, he said.
The passenger in the Trailblazer, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to St. Peter’s Hospital via ambulance.
The reason for the Trailblazer losing control remained under investigation, Gleich said, but added that speed likely contributed, given the icy road conditions. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt, he said.
The Suburban was carrying two adults and four children, Gleich said, and all of them went to the hospital in personal vehicles.
The condition of the others involved in the crash was unknown.
The name of the man who died will likely be released on Thursday once his family is notified, said Lewis and Clark County Coroner Bryan Backeberg.
