Brookings,OR : Four OK after fiery crash on May, Saturday 19th 2018
Alcohol, speed and inexperience might have contributed to a fiery car wreck Saturday that sent two juvenile girls to Curry General Hospital in Gold Beach.
According to Curry County Sheriff John Ward, his office received a call from the hospital reporting the girls were in their care with injuries from a wreck that hadn’t been reported. Deputies spoke with the girls who said they crashed “somewhere on a side road off Jerry’s Flat Road,” and that another girl and a boy were with them when they crashed. The driver was a 15-year-old who only held an instruction permit.
The other two were accounted for and uninjured, Ward said.
The girls caught a ride to the hospital.
The vehicle was found the next day about 5 miles south of the Jerry’s Flat/Agness roads on Forest Service Road 3313. It belonged to Robert Stowe of Gold Beach and was completely incinterated along with the surrounding vegetation and trees, Ward said.
“It is remarkable that no one was seriously injured in the crash and that the fire that was caused from the crash didn’t evolve into a major forest fire,” Ward said. “It burned quite a bit of shrubbery around it.”
Citations are expected to be issued, and the information is being forward to the county juvenile department.
