Columbus, OH : Driver injured after crash between box truck, car on the west side of Columbus on Wednesday, March 2, 2016

A woman remains in critical condition at Mount Carmel West, following a crash that shut down a busy highway for more than three hours.

The crash happened just before 11:15 a.m. on I-270 southbound near the I-70 overpass on the west side of Columbus.

Police said Ember M. Meadows of Grove City was the driver of a blue Chevrolet Aveo. A police incident report lists her age as 34 years old.

Police said Brian A. Shook, 37, of Akron, was driving a box truck when he drifted off the road and hit a guardrail. The rear of the truck then rotated back into traffic and crashed into the blue Chevrolet, driven by Meadows.

There were more than a dozen calls to 911 from witnesses.

“I’m a construction worker,” one caller said. “The guy just hit the barrier wall. The cab flew off the truck.”

“It’s pretty bad,” one witness told a dispatcher. “There’s like four or five construction guys who are out here trying to get the lady out, I think.”

According to the police report, Meadows was trapped inside the car with “incapacitating injuries.” She was taken to Mount Carmel West.

A hospital spokesperson said Wednesday afternoon that Meadows was in critical condition.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

I-270 reopened to traffic shortly after 2:45 p.m.
