Lyons Twp, MI : Lyons man seriously injured in motorcycle crash Monday night north of the Village of Pewamo on August 18, 2014
A motorcyclist was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital with life-threatening injuries after an accident Monday night north of the Village of Pewamo.
According to a report from the Michigan State Police - Lakeview Post, the accident occurred at 9:49 p.m. as the motorcyclist was traveling south on Hubbardston Road. The motorcycle left the roadway between Nickle Plate Road and Golf View Drive, striking a traffic sign. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids by Aero Med.
The rider has been identified as Paul Wood, 62, of Lyons.
The accident is still under investigation by the Michigan State Police, but speed and alcohol appear to be factors, according to the report. Wood also was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Assisting the Michigan State Police at the scene were the Ionia County Sheriff’s Department, Lyons Township-Pewamo Fire Department, Portland Ambulance and Aero Med.
