Athens, NY : State corrections officers dies in crash on Route 9W in the Greene County on Thursday, December 10, 2015

State police are investigating the cause of a crash that has claimed the life of a New York state corrections officer.

Troopers say the collision occurred around 9:30 a.m. Thursday on Route 9W in the Greene County town of Athens, on the Hudson River 30 miles south of Albany.

Police say 27-year-old Carolyn Torres of Germantown in neighboring Columbia County was driving her car south when she veered across the center line and collided head-on with a northbound commercial truck.

Torres was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver wasn't injured.

The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Torres had been a corrections officer at the medium-security Hudson Correctional Facility since December 2012.
