Dexter, KS : Oklahoma woman killed in U-turn crash on southern Kansas highway on Sunday morning, March 20, 2016

An elderly Oklahoma woman was killed Sunday morning when she attempted to make a U-turn on a southern Kansas highway and her car was struck by another vehicle, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 11:48 a.m. Sunday when a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Janice A. Tandarich, 79, of Oologah, Okla., was attempting to make a U-turn on US-166 highway at 211th Road.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 2011 Freightliner semi-trailer driven by Thomas D. Walker, 50, of Lavaca, Ark., was unable to avoid a collision with the Toyota.

Tandarich was pronounced dead at the scene. Walker was reported uninjured. The patrol said both drivers were wearing seat belts.
