Baton Rouge, LA : David Breland III, 33, dies after car crashes, catches on fire Thursday, November 24, 2016
A Baton Rouge man driving by himself died early Thursday morning south of LSU after he drove his car into a culvert on the opposite site of the road, setting his car on fire with him in it.
Louisiana State Police identified the man as David Breland III, 33, of Baton Rouge. The crash occurred on La. 30 around 5 a.m. Thursday. Breland, who was heading north on La. 30 in a 2015 Honda Civic, crossed over and crashed south of Ben Hur Road, overturning in the process, State Police reported.
Breland died in the crash and subsequent fire and was pronounced dead by the East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office. State Police reported the damage was so severe that it’s unclear whether Breland was wearing a seat belt or had been drinking alcohol.
