Nebraska City, NE : Two peopel injured after Car crashes into pickup hauling farm equipment on Highway 75 near Nebraska City on Monday afternoon, Oct 12, 2015

A crash near Nebraska City on Monday afternoon required an Oklahoma couple to be transported by medical helicopter to an Omaha hospital.

The crash was reported around 1:30 p.m. on Highway 75.

The car the couple was in rear-ended the back of a combine header getting towed by a truck.

An Otoe County sheriff deputy said the couple was traveling southbound and the pickup truck was turning right into a field. The couple needed to be cut from the wreckage.

The driver of the truck told KETV NewsWatch 7 that he's OK, but didn't want to speak on camera.

The man and the woman pulled from the Honda CRV are in critical condition.

"You talk about a piece of equipment that drives 20 miles an hour. It doesn't take long if you're driving 70 to catch up with them," Otoe County farmer Nate Patton said.

Patton's watched drivers barely miss his combine on rural highways.

"People drive way too fast, especially topping the hills," Patton said.

Unlike most harvest seasons where farmers gradually start work in the fields, the wet fall has pushed the work back.

"They're hitting it pretty hard right now," Patton said. "You just have to realize that everybody is going to be working really, really hard the next month."

That means more farm equipment will be on highways than usual.

"We can't see you coming," David Patton said. "We try to have flashers and emergency lights going."
