Sarasota County, FL : Motorcyclist critically injured in U.S. 41 crash on Wednesday evening, December 31, 2014

A Sarasota motorcyclist was critically injured in an accident Wednesday evening.

According to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol:

Samuel Parrett, 55, of Nokomis was riding a 2002 Honda motorcycle southbound on U.S. 41 near the intersection with Habitat Boulevard in Osprey.

A 2006 BMW SUV driven by Luisa F. Nealon, 43, of Osprey crossed the northbound lanes of the road and stopped facing southwest in the paved median. Nealon's car turned left into the left lanes of U.S. 41 into the path of the motorcycle.

The two vehicles collided, and Parrett was thrown from the motorcycle as it overturned.

Parrett was flown to Blake Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. He was not wearing helmet.

Nealon was cited for improper lane change.
