ANDERSON, IN : A late-afternoon accident on southbound Interstate 69 on Monday, 9th April 2018
A late-afternoon accident Monday on southbound Interstate 69 resulted in the death of a Fishers man despite frantic efforts of several eyewitnesses.
Indiana State Police Sgt. John Bowling said the preliminary investigation is that Roscoe Murray, 49, was accelerating down the ramp from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to get onto I-69 when he failed to see the stopped traffic ahead in a construction zone.
Murray's maroon Honda CR-V rear-ended an empty tanker truck, of ADM Trucking Inc. of Decatur, Illinois, around 3 p.m., according to Anderson resident Sam Mudd, a witness.
Murray was taken to St. Vincent Hospital where he died of his injuries, the state police release said.
The truck driver, Dereon Bond, 44, of Decatur, Illinois, was taken to St. Vincent Anderson with minor, non-life threatening injuries, Bowling said.
Traffic was shut down at Anderson's 222 southbound exit from around 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., according to Indiana Department of Transportation.
The SUV was traveling southbound in the right lane when it ran into the tanker, which was braking. The SUV's brake lights were not on and the vehicle was traveling full force, Mudd said.
