Hampton,NH : Man driving vintage Firebird dies in Weare crash on October, Saturday 7th 2017
A Weare man died Saturday after his sports car struck a utility pole on Route 114 in his hometown.
Robert Martin, 63, was pronounced dead at the crash scene, police said. Martin was the only person in the black vintage Trans Am at the time of the crash, and no other vehicles were involved.
Police said the car was speeding when it struck a utility pole, which then snapped in two and caused power lines to fall into the road.
The crash was reported about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 114 and Renshaw Road. It caused widespread power outages in the area; at the height of the incident, Eversource reported that about 1,200 of its customers were without power. Power was restored by early evening.
A section of Route 114 from Gould Road to Short Street was closed for several hours and traffic diverted around the crash scene.
