Richland, WA : Three people killed and four people injured in rollover crash on I-82 near the Benton County city on Tuesday night, December 8, 2015
Three people were killed and four people injured Tuesday night when a Dodge pickup rolled over on Interstate 82 and was struck by an SUV traveling the opposite direction.
The Dodge was eastbound on the interstate about 7:30 p.m. near the exit for Clearwater Avenue and Badger Road when its driver lost control, the Washington State Patrol reported. The Dodge rolled across the median into the westbound lanes and was hit by the SUV, troopers said.
The driver of the Dodge, Artemio Vasquez-Perez, 54 of Peshastin, died at the scene, as did passengers Celia Vasquez, 50 of Peshastin, and Adela Trujillo, 71 of Manson.
All the injured were taken to area hospitals, three by ground ambulances and one by helicopter.
The crash closed the westbound lanes for about a half hour and emergency vehicles reportedly had difficulty reaching the scene. A single lane was reopened after 8 p.m. but there was still debris on the roadway and responders working.
Benton Fire District 1, medics from the Richland and Kennewick fire departments and Benton Fire Districts 2 and 4 responded to the scene, along with Medstar. The state patrol is investigating the crash.
