One woman was killed and another was in critical condition after a Friday afternoon car crash on Indian River Road in Virginia Beach .

The driver of the car that collided with theirs was charged with manslaughter.

At 3:19 p.m., an eastbound box truck lost control in the 2400 block of Indian River Road and overcorrected, crossing the center line, according to a news release from the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The truck hit an SUV headed west, killing its driver .

The passenger was flown to a hospital, where she is in critical condition, police said.
