A Pittsfield police detective was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday evening after being involved in a car crash with a drunken driver.
The detective, identified as Lt. Michael Maddalena, was on-duty in the city when the crash occurred at the intersection of West Street and Valentine Road, according to a statement released by the Pittsfield Police Department on Wednesday night.
Police say Maddalena was treated and subsequently released from the hospital.
The operator of the other car has been identified as 36-year-old Nicholas Ricciarini, who police say was not injured during the crash. Ricciarini was arrested at the scene for operating under the influence of alcohol, 2nd offense.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to police.
