A Massachusetts man has died after a one-car crash in Colchester on Monday, police said.

According to an incident report, Edward J. Thomas, 46, of Hadley, Mass., was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am eastbound on Route 2 in the area of Exit 21 at roughly 3:55 p.m. He lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the left shoulder, police said.

The car went off the roadway and up an embankment where it struck several small trees and brush, police said.

According to police, the vehicle continued through the median before coming to a stop facing the westerly direction. The car sustained significant damage, and Thomas, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Hartford Hospital by Life Star, police said. He was later pronounced dead, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
