Two people are dead after a crash involving a van and a motorcycle in Atlantic Beach Thursday night.
Members of the Florida Highway Patrol and Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responded to the wreck on Mayport Road and West 10th Street just before 8 p.m., according to Times-Union News partner First Coast News.
The driver of the van made a left turn onto West 10th from Florida A1A and failed to yield to the motorcycle in the opposite direction, according to the Highway Patrol crash report. The motorcycle then hit the side of the van.
Both people on the motorcycle died, said FHP spokesperson Sgt. Dylan Bryan. They have been identified as Kasey Whilden, 24, of Eustis and Jennifer Reed, 42, of Jacksonville. Neither was wearing a helmet, according to the report.
The driver of the van, 74-year-old Eugene Long, suffered minor injuries, the FHP said. His passenger, 74-year-old Mary Long of suffered critical injuries. Both are from Atlantic Beach.
