Sugar Grove, IL : Kane County Department of Transportation worker died in a traffic crash at North of Lasher Road in Blackberry Township OnThursday, May 19th, 2016
A 44-year-old Kane County Department of Transportation worker died the morning of May 19 while filling in a pothole just north of Lasher Road in Blackberry Township near Sugar Grove, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s
Office.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a traffic crash about 10:40 a.m., where Steven W. Chidester of Cortland had exited driving a Ford F350 truck that was pulling a commercial asphalt trailer and was working to fill in a pothole. Another crew member
remained in the truck, the release stated.
A second truck, a 1999 Ford F250 was headed northbound on Harter Road behind the KCDOT truck and failed to slow down, striking the KCDOT truck and Chidester from behind, stated the release. Officials determined Chidester was deceased
at the scene. The second KCDOT crew member and the driver of the Ford F250, Christopher N. Flamand, 27, of Kaneville, were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Sugar Grove fire and police departments responded to the call, as well as the
Kane County Office of Emergency Management, the release stated.
No charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation.
