Police believe woman hit and killed by car was under the influence

Authorities said a woman believed to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol died after getting hit by a car while trying to cross a roadway early Monday morning.The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Janelle Jones, 46, stepped into the path of a car on Airline Highway near Merrydale Avenue just before 3 a.m.She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the car was not injured.Investigators said they think drug and alcohol use by Jones was a factor in the crash.The driver of the car has not been charged.The investigation is ongoing.
