RICHLAND COUNTY, SC : One teen dead five others injured in Richland County overnight crash on Saturday, 15th July 2023

Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputies along with South Carolina Highway Patrol stopped a Jeep Cherokee, which then fled from the traffic stop.

Officials say the car reached speeds of 100 miles per hour before crashing in the pond of the Chestnut Hill Plantation subdivision on July 15. The vehicle then sank into the water.

RCSD deputies dove into the water to rescue multiple teenagers from the vehicle. Five people, ranging from 14-18 years old, were taken to the hospital with injuries. One person inside the vehicle did not resurface.

A dive team was called to search for the missing person. Divers searched but were unable to navigate in the dark. The search resumed the morning of July 15. Divers recovered the body of a teenage male.
