Ponchatoula, LA : Kyle Russell, 29, hit and killed by a vehicle north of LA 22 in Ponchatoula on Wednesday morning, August 31, 2016

A man was hit by a vehicle and killed while walking on a road Wednesday morning, according to Louisiana State Police.

The victim was identified as Kyle Russell, 29, of Holden.

Troopers said the crash happened the I-55 East Service Road north of LA 22 in Ponchatoula around 6 a.m.

Tpr. Dustin Dwight with LSP said the investigation so far showed Russell was walking in one of the lanes of the road when he was hit by an SUV.

He added Russell was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.

According to investigators, the driver of the SUV voluntarily submitted to a breath test and no amount of alcohol was detected. He was not charged.

Authorities said blood samples from the victim were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
