Los Angeles County, CA : Woman injured in Castaic big rig crash early Wednesday morning, March 30, 2016
A woman was injured and rushed to the hospital early Wednesday morning after her car and a big rig collided on Interstate 5 near Lake Hughes Road, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Firefighters were dispatched to a reports of a woman trapped in her car following a collision on the southbound lanes of I-5 shortly before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Fire Department Inspector Joey Marron told The Signal Wednesday.
“It initially came in as a person trapped, but there was no entrapment,” he said. “It was a crash involving a big rig and a passenger vehicle.”
Firefighters who arrived at the scene found the big rig’s fuel tank was ruptured and leaking diesel fuel, Marron said.
About 40 gallons spilled from the big rig. The Fire Department’s hazardous materials crew, however, managed to contain the spill, he said. None of the fuel found its way into storm drains.
The crash shut down three lanes of the southbound I-5, according to the California Highway Patrol.
