Medford, OK : Man killed in head-on collision on Wednesday morning June 25th 2014
A Ponca City man was killed early Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on Oklahoma 11 in Grant County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Brett Joseph Reedy, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5:58 a.m. collision about 2/10 of a mile west of Oklahoma 132.
Reedy was driving a 2002 GMC pickup eastbound on Oklahoma 11 when for an unknown reason, he crossed the center line and collided with a westbound 2010 Peterbilt, according to an OHP report.
Reedy’s pickup spun 180 degree counterclockwise, rolled a quarter of a time and came to rest in the south ditch. The semi left the roadway to the right, coming to rest in the north ditch, according to the report.
Reedy was pinned for about 61 minutes before being freed by Hawley Fire Department.
The driver of the semi, 44-year-old Lemcy J. Cortez III, of Westwego, La., was transported by Medford EMS to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid with trunk and arm injuries. He was treated and released.
The collision closed Oklahoma 11 for nearly seven hours as emergency responders investigated and cleared the scene. Grant County Sheriff’s Office blocked the roadway on either side of the site of the collision.
According to the OHP report, Reedy was not wearing a seat belt and Cortez was.
The cause if the collision and condition of Reedy are listed as “under investigation.”
The highway was reopened at 12:57 p.m.
