HANNIBAL, MO : New London man airlifted to Columbia hospital after being injured in bike crash on U.S. 61 in Hannibal on Wednesday, 1st August 2018

A 21-year-old New London man was airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of injuries he suffered after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car Wednesday in Hannibal.

The Hannibal Police Department said officers responded to the crash about 1:30 p.m. on the west side of U.S. 61 just south of Route MM in front of the Dairy Queen.

Police said it was reported that the man, who was not identified, was riding the bicycle north along the east side of the southbound traffic lanes of U.S. 61, where there is no shoulder. Witnesses told police that he veered into traffic and was struck by a Honda Civic that was traveling south.

Police are continuing an investigation into the crash.
