Woman dead, teen critical after hit-and-run in Altamonte Springs

A woman is dead and a teenager is fighting for his life after a late-night hit-and-run crash in a neighborhood that has been asking for help for years.Neighbors said a speeding car or SUV hit the two while they were lying in middle of La Salle Drive, near Northwestern Avenue around 9 p.m. Monday.
Investigators said they did not immediately know why Carmen Martinez, 22, and Jorge Ardoleda Jr., 16, were lying in the road.

Martinez was killed, and Ardoleda was listed in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center. The driver took off in a large silver car or SUV, investigators said.
Residents nearby said accidents like this have been a problem in the neighborhood for decades, because people cut through there between State Roads 434 and 436.
"Traffic problems like this, they've really been something that we've been petitioning the county for, for over 20 years, and nothing gets done," said one concerned neighbor. "We've wanted speed bumps, we've wanted better patrolling. None of it has happened, and I hope that whoever ran over our friends, I hope that their conscience will bring them back."
"We love our kids," the neighbor added. "We love you, too. I wish it hadn't happened."

Troopers are looking for a white or silver car with right front damage. They said the right front headlight is either damaged or may be missing.
