Colorado Springs, Colorado
The mother of a boy killed in a tragic crash Tuesday night says she doesn't hold any animosity toward the driver.
Heidi Hameed's husband and son were on the sidewalk on North Murray Boulevard near Bijou Street when police say a speeding car jumped the curb and hit them both. Ishaq Hameed, 5, was killed. Raphael Hameed is in the hospital in critical condition. Part of his leg had to amputated.
"He was a beautiful baby," said Heidi. "Well, he wasn't a baby. He was 5. But us mothers, we always think our kids are babies."
Heidi said she doesn't know how she'll break the news to Raphael.
"He doesn't know about Ish yet and he's been a stay-at-home dad for five years," she said. "This is absolutely going to destroy him."
Police say the driver of the vehicle was 21-year-old Xyrjah Goldston. According to an arrest affidavit for Goldson, she was speeding and lost control of her vehicle. She faces charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and reckless driving.
Heidi says she forgives her, but wishes she had been more careful.
"I know that accidents can happen to just about anybody and I know there's good and there's evil people in this world," she said. "I don't know which one she was and I really don't care."
Kayla Adams is a mutual friend of both the Hameeds and Goldston. She described Ishaq as a happy boy who loved to learn.
"He knew about every planet there was," Adams said. "He always had a smile on his face. He was just a really good kid."
She was walking near the intersection of Murray and Bijou when she saw emergency crews Tuesday night.
"I was actually right across the street when it happened," Adams said. "And not knowing who it was or what it was, we went over there. We didn't know he had passed away. We didn't even know it was him or his father, but we did know the driver."
Adams said she believes Goldston is truly sorry.
"No matter what she does, I know she's going to always feel bad about this," she said. "She is a good mother. I wish she would have made different choices and slowed down."
Goldston will be back in court next week.
