Forest Grove,OR : Police say fatal fiery car crash was intentional on January, Monday 29th 2018

Police say they believe a man killed in a fiery crash Monday on North Foothill Road intentionally drove his car into a tree.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who died in the crash in the 6700 block of North Foothill Road as Eric William Joyner, 55, of Medford. He was the sole occupant of the 2013 Ford Fusion that struck a large tree and caught fire.

Based on evidence from the crash investigation and information obtained from family, police say they believe Joyner was driving northbound when he intentionally veered off the roadway and into the tree. Joyner reportedly struggled with chronic illness and recently sought mental health treatment, according to a release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Medford police detectives assisted with the investigation.
